PROJECT OBJECTIVE
This project aims to design a unique and fashionable bag design that embodies the essence of Accessorize London. The design should reflect the brand's aesthetics, which are characterized by a blend of modern and classic elements, and a vibrant, cosmopolitan feel. The bag should be an attractive, functional, and fashionable accessory that caters to Accessorize's diverse and style-conscious customer base.
This project was a classroom project undertaken during the 4th semester of my graduation.
THE BRAND & ITS STORY
Founder, Peter Simon’s return from a life-changing road trip around Asia made him share his vision of the exotic, rich, vibrant fabrics and colours of the Asian subcontinent. The brand became known for its 'deluxe boho chic' fashion. Peter started Accessorize 10 years after starting 'Monsoon' and launched their first store in the Piazza, London’s Covent Garden. In 1984, Accessorize evolved as an exciting and strongly differentiated High Street concept for fashion accessories. Focused on a young audience between the age group of 20-27 years, it offers a collection of eclectic global themes, combining a mixture of traditional and trend-led inspiration. Today, there are over 240 Accessorize stores in the UK and an international operation of over 1000 stores.
Some of the bag design silhouettes and styles that are classic to Accessorize are the Avani Cross-Body Bag, Caroline Handheld Bag, Charlotte Cross-body Bag, Brooklyn Casual Shoulder Bag, Sammy Backpack and the Freya Push Lock Wallet.
DESIGN PROCESS
The design process began with analyzing Accessorize's products and surveying the market. The 'sling bag' silhouette was chosen as the focal point and competitors were studied for material selections, pricing strategies, and prevailing market trends. User research followed to understand the audience's style, informing the design vision.
